SC grants six weeks protection from arrest with liberty to apply regular bail, dismisses SLP

The SC on June 02, 2020 {SHAMSUDDIN vs THE STATE OF UTTAR PRADESH} held that the petitioner shall not be arrested for a period of six weeks.

It was however held by the Bench, comprising of Justice N.V. RAMANA, Justice R. SUBHASH REDDY and Justice SURYA KANT, that perusing the material placed, it is not inclined to interfere with the impugned order passed by the High Court.

Lastly, it was held by the SC that taking into consideration the fact that the petitioner is stated to be 73 years’ of age, it directs him to surrender before the trial court and apply for regular bail. It was ordered that if such an application is filed by the petitioner before the trial court, the trial court is directed to consider the same in accordance with law as expeditiously as possible.
