[Covid-19]: SC extends time to vacate premises by the tenant, earlier it was end of March, 2020

The SC on April 17, 2020 {DILJIT SINGH BINDRA v.  LIFE INSURANCE CORPORATION OF INDIA} held that the petitioner had to vacate the premises by the end of March, 2020 and because of outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and complete lock down, it extends the time to vacate the premises till the end of August, 2020. However it was observed that no further extension will be granted under any circumstances.

In the present case, an application was moved by the applicant tenant seeking extension of time to vacate the suit premises on the ground that he is a senior citizen aged about 69 years who, along with his wife, is running a restaurant on the suit premises since 1971; he has no other alternative space; he wants some more time to vacate the suit premises in view of the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and complete lock down etc. The application was allowed in above terms by the Bench of SC, comprising of Justice Mohan M. Shantanagoudar & Justice R. Subhash Reddy, on account of Covid-19 pandemic.
